The Tin Forest

The Tin Forest takes place during June in Govan, Springburn, the East End and Southwest Glasgow.

An ambitious project forming part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme, The Tin Forest is a series of site-specific theatre events to be performed in a range of indoor and outdoor spaces.

Inspired by the bestselling children’s book of the same name it is presented as an allegory for the regeneration of the city from its 20th century industrial decline.

The events include:

  • an evening of family-friendly live music, theatre, acrobatics and speechifying, Stand Up!, is a free event, at a specially recreated, temporary Elder Park Bandstand.
  • a fantastical steampunk-styled promenade into Springburn's past and back again, with a community cast of more than 80
  • The Tin Forest East Endsees the transformation of the Reidvale Community Centre off Duke Street, into a specially created tin forest for a show that loosely follows The Tin Forest story, with actor and longtime East End resident Harry Ward and a community cast of over 70 performers.
  • The Tin Forest Southwest features songs written and composed by John Kielty with and for the people of Southwest Glasgow for this promenade experience in St Andrew Penilee Parish Church.
