Following the development of the Theatre Green Book, a three-part best practice guide for environmentally responsible theatre looking at sustainability in relation to productions, buildings and operations, the Theatres Trust's next conference focuses on how the industry responds to the climate emergency.

Speakers include the National Theatre's Lisa Burger and director / designer Melly Still on the Theatre Green Book and architect Steve Tompkins and theatre consultant Andy Hayles from Charcoalblue leading a debate on how theatres can remain fit for purpose.

Cross-border work and the role of theatre in wider climate advocacy are amongst the other discussions between the Royal Court Theatre's Lucy Davies, HOME's Dave Moutrey, Alison Tickell from Julie’s Bicycle, Molly Braverman of Broadway Green Alliance and Heidi Wiley of European Theatre.

Theatres Trust director Jon Morgan said, "the green journey is a continuous one and we all need to keep exploring, testing and discussing the best way to improve the sustainability of our sector. I hope colleagues from all parts of the theatre sector will join us at Conference 21 on 4 November and be part of that journey."

Discussions and conference attendees represent a wide number of theatre disciplines and non-creative functions, from organisations across all scales and types. Bursaries are available for freelancers, early career professionals and small theatres to attend without charge.

Conference 21: Making Theatre Sustainable takes place on 4 November in London at Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith.
