Northampton Royal and Derngate’s co-production with the Touring Consortium Theatre Company, To Sir, With Love has been nominated in the best regional production category for the WhatsOnStage Awards 2014.

The other nominations for best regional production are Macbeth at the Manchester International Festival, My Fair Lady at Sheffield Crucible, Richard II at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford and The Prodigals at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.

The world première stage adaptation of E R Braithwaite’s To Sir, With Love by Ayub Khan Din opened at Royal and Derngate before going on a nationwide tour.

The tale of an inspirational teacher in a post-war East End school featured Matthew Kelly as the radical headmaster Florian and Ansu Kabia as teacher Ricky Braithwaite.

The awards are the only major theatre accolades in which audiences are the judges across all categories. Voting is open until 31 January.

The winners will be announced on 23 February.
