Titchfield Festival Theatre, one of the UK’s largest amateur theatre groups, welcomes submissions for its New Playwright Competition.

To be eligible, the only criteria are that the work is a new full-length piece and that it has never been produced.

The winning writer will receive a cash prize of £1,000 and the play will be have a week-long run in the Acorn studio, a package worth £10,000.

Titchfield Festival Theatre artistic director Kevin Fraser said, “last year, we were amazed with the number of new plays we received as part of our first-ever New Playwright Competition. The standard of entries was incredibly high, and we were delighted with the participation from writers across the country. That is why we have decided to launch a new event. The criteria is the same as last year: you must have written a brand new play which can be of any kind—and importantly never performed before.

“The last two and half years have been particularly tough for writers, performers, creatives and people working throughout the arts sector. Therefore we want to give something back: providing a showcase for talented and up and coming playwrights; together with a cash incentive. We look forward to seeing some great new plays over the coming weeks.”

Last year’s inaugural competition saw more than 275 entries and was won by Tom Derrington for Sleeping Lions.

The submissions window for the New Playwright Competition closes on 1 September. Competition details may be found online.
