The winners of the second annual Tonic Awards were announced last week.
Tonic, which partners with theatre companies to support them as they achieve greater gender equality across their on- and off-stage activities, runs this annual award to mark the achievements of women in the industry.
This year's recipients are:

Emma de Souza, for Kids Week, which offers families with children under 16 affordable theatre.

Clean Break theatre company, for forty years of work on the theme of women and the criminal justice system.
- Waking the Feminists, for its campaign regarding the representation of women in Irish theatre.

The Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, for its programming of work about women and women’s experiences.

Steffi Holtz and Gina Abolins, for speaking up about inappropriate behaviour in their workplace, in spite of potential personal and professional repercussions.

Kully Thiarai, for her achievements and ethos as an artistic director.

Lyn Gardner, for showcasing new voices and productions as a theatre critic and her contributions to debate within the theatre industry as a journalist.

Caryl Churchill, for an extraordinary career, leading the way for a new generation of female playwrights, breaking down walls within the theatre industry.

Director Katie Mitchell, for her game-changing artistic work, proactive support of younger female theatre artists, and dedication to foregrounding feminism on stage.
