Tricycle Theatre - £5m capital project

Ian Ritchie Architects Ltd are the architects for The Tricycle Theatre's £5 million capital project that will renovate and modernize much of the Kilburn-based venue.

The theatre originally opened in 1980 in a converted Forester’s Hall and was largely destroyed in a fire seven years later. It was subsequently rebuilt and a cinema and rehearsal facilities added later.

The Ian Ritchie practice has worked on projects for the Royal Shakespeare Company Courtyard Theatre, the Reina Sofia Museum of Modern Art in Madrid, the Jubilee Line Extension in London and The Spire in Dublin.

Indhu Rubasingham, Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre said, “The capital project is an incredible opportunity for the Tricycle and I am thrilled we’ll be working with an architect with the experience, prestige and vision that Ian Ritchie has.

"Through the redesign of the theatre, our ambition is to create a warm, inviting and fully accessible hub where opportunities are created and imaginations expanded.

"Over the last 30 years, the Tricycle has become established as one of London’s most significant theatres. Going forward, we want to become an even brighter beacon on Kilburn High Road for the diverse communities of Brent and beyond.

"This project will go a huge way in realising our mission: to be a local theatre with an international vision and a national reputation.”

The project is largely funded by Arts Council England (£3.15 million) leaving the Tricycle Theatre to raise a further £2 million.
