We Can Be Heroes (Sunderland Stages and ARC Stockton)

Matthew Bourne's The Car Man returns to the Theayre Royal in Newcastle from Tuesday until 9th May.

Northern Stage's co-production with Northampton's The Royal and Derngate, Cryrano de Bergerac, comes to the Newcastle venue from Wednesday until 16th May. Tuesday to Saturday sees the return of NT Connections, new plays performed by young people from across the North East.

What Falls Apart continues at Live Theatre until 16th May.

Godspell in Concert is at Sunderland Empire on Sunday 3rd May.

Sunfest, from The University of Sunderland Faculty of Arts Design and Media, continues at Arts Centre Washington on Thursday with Caryl Churchill's Top Girls and on Saturday with her Cloud 9.

There are two Sunderland Stages performances this week: on Tuesday Birmingham Rep presents Back Down at Sunderland College Visual and Performing Arts Building, Bede Campus, and on Friday Sometimes We Play in association with LittleMighty presents We Can Be Heroes at The Bonded Warehouse, SR1 2RQ.

On Thursday Generic Girl Productions presents The Customs House Scratch Night at the Customs House in South Shields.

On Friday the European Arts Company presents Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray at Alnwick Playhouse.

On Wednesday and Thursday Opera North and The Wrong Crowd present Swanhunter composed by Jonathan Dove, using a libretto by Alasdair Middleton, at the Queen's Hall in Hexham.

London Contemporary Theatre presents Danny the Champion of the World at The Playhouse Whitley Bay adapted by David Wood from the book by Roald Dahl on Friday.

We Can Be Heroes comes to ARC Stockton on Thursday.

The Cat in the Hat (for age 3+) is at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond on Saturday at 2pm.

From Thursday to Saturday Reform Theatre, CAST and Harrogate Theatre present Thick as Thieves by Mark Whiteley in the Harrogate Theatre Studio and on Saturday Kill the Beast performs He Had Hairy Hands in the Main House.
