Whilst Wilton's, the world's oldest and last surviving Grand Music Hall, awaits The Heritage Lottery Fund decision, it can celebrate having raised the £600,000 match funding needed for the Fund application.

The arts venue building, which dates back hundreds of years, continues to be in urgent need of attention. The Grand Hall reopened in February on completion of the first phase of a major building project, and if it comes through the Heritage Lottery Fund grant will mean the next phase of works can start on the five Georgian houses that make up the front of house areas including Wilton’s famous Mahogany Bar.

Wilton's Artistic Director, Frances Mayhew, said "We’re incredibly lucky to have had such terrific support so far, but now we really need a major injection of support to help us save this building before it falls down.

"The Heritage Lottery Fund plays an vital role in saving buildings of historic importance like ours and we are delighted to have this opportunity to work with them to try and secure full funding. Now all we can do is keep our fingers crossed."
