Wilton's Strike! Dance Festival

Wilton’s Music Hall announces the full line-up for its exciting new dance festival, Wilton’s Strike!, a new dance platform offering emerging dancers and choreographers the opportunity to develop a piece of work with Wilton’s and perform on its historic stage this September.

Wilton’s Strike! was conceived as a showcase for new work and talent and is being developed in The Chrysalis Club at Wilton's. The Chrysalis Club represents a diverse and innovative programme of events taking placing in Wilton’s while work is going on finally to repair all the derelict spaces.

This work is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The festival will present a selection of styles and original concepts under the theme of metamorphosis and will be the perfect chance to witness the stars of tomorrow in an intimate setting at no cost.

To support this event, Wilton’s Music Hall successfully raised funds through the crowd-funding web site Indiegogo. Donors contributed online and unlocked perks such as signed posters and shout-outs in order to reach the goal of £2,500 for a new dance floor.

The programme will include:

  • Rebecca Evans (Pell Ensemble) and Lorenza Lo's (Flock Collective) Hiding in Plain Sight (working title). This contemporary piece looks at how modern society is undergoing a metamorphosis in communication through the use of texting and how this new way of interacting is modifying our verbal and physical language and the effect it has on our human stories.
  • Rambert dancer Dane Hurst's Finding Freedom (working title). Hurst has an attraction to dramatic works driven by a strong narrative. This piece is inspired by the narrative of American death row inmate, Jarvis Jay Masters, and his metamorphosis from darkness and isolation to enlightened peace.
  • Ieva Kuniskis' They Live Next Door (working title). Kuniskis creates theatrical dance pieces rooted in Lithuanian theatre, folklore and everyday experiences. Her piece explores the story of an older man embodying and pushing the boundaries of social stereotypes until he morphs into the most extreme and disgraceful form of himself.
  • Elise Nuding's Shift, Spin, Warp, Twine (working title). Nuding will use contemporary ropework to demonstrate peoples quests to simplify their complex and entangling lives.
  • Jo Meredith in collaboration with Sean Damian Bruno on The Metamorphosis of Perception: “Please wait whilst we try to connect you…” (working title). Using text, dance and music, Meredith and Damian examine how technology is metamorphosing humans from sensual to virtual beings and evolving our personal relationships.
  • Jack Webb's Inside Opulence (working title). Exploring the connections between animal and human nature, Webb’s contemporary piece investigates the desire to be seen and fighting for survival in the setting of a modern day Vaudeville show.
