After its sold-out production of Rent, Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre, in association with Ameena Hamid Productions, has announced the cast for a new version of '70s musical The Wiz: The Super Soul Musical Wonderful Wizard of Oz from November 24 to January 16.
It’s a re-telling of L Frank Baum’s classic children’s novel reflecting contemporary African-American culture. A 1975 Broadway première won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Cherelle Wiliams is Dorothy, Tarik Frimpong is Scarecrow, Llewellyn Graham is the Tin Man, Jonathan Andre is the Lion, Cameron Bernard Jones is The Wiz, Anelisa Lamola is Addaperle, Bree Smith is Aunt Em and Glinda, Kofi Dennis is Lord High and Ashh Blackwood is Evillene. The ensemble comprises Andile Mabhena, Shayna McPherson, Dylan Gordon-Jones, Samantha Shuma and Marisha Morgan.
