A brand new comedy-drama play is set to première in Manchester this month. The show is part of the line up for the inaugural Women In Comedy UK Festival, and received a rehearsed reading at The Actors Centre London in 2012.

Women’s Voices is a play about a feminist a cappella choir, whose depleted membership is struggling to keep the choir in existence.

It’s written by Susan K Monson (original member of feminist a cappella choir Velvet Fist) and award-winning published author Christopher Owen.

It’s at Jabez Clegg (off Oxford Rd, Manchester October 16-17), and at the new John Cooper-Clarke Theatre, which is now part of Chapel St Studios which runs above The Black Lion on Chapel Street just outside the city centre the following two nights.

The cast includes a selection of experienced performers and talented newcomers: Kerry Leigh (better known for her stand-up comedy and work with Laughing Cows Comedy), Betty Webster (Shameless, Thrift, Dream On, Chazing), Una Love (Wine of India and Broken at The Lowry), Hilly Barber (Hevi in award-winning play The Interpreter, Home at 24:7 Festival, Moving On and Fresh Meat), Victoria Kerr (Rose Bruford acting graduate and mezzo-soprano), Parisa Nikkhah Eshghi (Manchester-based performer whose credits include Hollyoaks and The Decision) and newcomer Sean Fitton (soon to be seen in A Walk in the Park).
