The Jack Studio Theatre's Annual Playwrighting Festival, now in its fourth year

Following the format from previous years, three pieces of new work have been chosen from submissions made by writers with a connection to south east London.

At the core of the Write Now 4 Festival is a full production of one of these, No Rhyme written by Melanie Pennant, to be directed by the Jack's artistic director, Kate Bannister, and staged readings of the other two winning pieces, The Magic Hour by Martin McNamara and Bump by Vinay Patel.

  • No Rhyme plays 14 to 25 May—a raw new play about youth on youth crime and the struggle to find answers; suitable for the over 14s.
  • The Magic Hour plays on 8, 10 and 11 May—a darkly comic Irish family drama set in a 1990s London hospital. Mark Leipacher directs.
  • Bump plays 7, 9 and 11 May—a play in which two school friends run into each other at the maternity ward where their partners are to give birth: they have a shared past, but what of the future. Tanith Lindon directs.

The Festival, which runs from 4 to 25 May, also has a programme of workshops and discussions with theatre practitioners and playwrights, and will première a selection of ten minute plays based on the theme of legacy.
