Dream Plays (Scenes from a Play I’ll Never Write): Room 7

Johnny McKnight
Traverse 2

Room 7 is an amusing short piece but stops short of delivering whatever message was intended.

It primarily consists of an ongoing conversation between Ros Sydney’s combative Vera and Hannah Boyde playing Jessie.

This takes place at a sinister IVF clinic where Vera is a highly-paid executive and Jessie the new office junior being inducted into the photocopying.

Most expectations and especially Jessie’s are confounded by her unusual interrogator. This is an unusual organisation where, despite the surface impressions, the actual work behind the scenes achieves very different goals, providing celebrities with services that are not typically available on the National Health.

The leading actresses (overseen by another pair at computer screens) do their bit with this fragment of comic drama but without further developments, it seems very incomplete.
