The Vanish Inquisition

Philip Stokes and Richard Turner
Horizon Arts
Underbelly, Cowgate

The best thing about this show by some way is its title.

Richard Turner is clearly a good performer with some dazzling dance moves but his stand-up routine featuring four clichéd characters is repetitive and rarely funny.

Uncle Ted is a children’s comedian, Kenny Ricketts a hooligan, Katia Kadrula a Romanian catwalk model and worst of all. Rudy Babylon is an American loudmouth with truncated arms and terminal cancer.

The only thing that they have in common is an obsession with the absent Mr Turner.

When he finally appears, the man himself begins a riff on identity that is far more interesting than anything previously seen. However, it is too little, too late.
