Lazarus Theatre

This is another established company with a record of productions that range from Greek tragedy, Shakespeare, Marlowe and their contemporaries to Schiller.

It ise an ensemble company that has played a regular season of plays in repertoire since 2007. It places text as paramount and brings fresh approaches to presenting classic texts to a modern audience, interpreting the epic nature of theatre.

This award is for their production of The Tragedy of Mariam by Elizabeth Carey, in 1612 the first play by a female playwright to appear on the Stationers’ register and one that places strong female characters at the heart of the story.
