Ghost Stories, Sound of Music, Once, God of Carnage
Ghost Stories – tour starts 8 January
The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre’s production of Ghost Stories leaves its West End home to go on tour.
Screenwriter, stage-writer and author Jeremy Dyson and award-winning actor, director and writer Andy Nyman’s twisted love letter to horror is dubbed a supernatural spectacular and potential audience members are warned that, since it contains moments of extreme shock and tension, those of a nervous disposition should think seriously before attending.
In the cast are Joshua Higgott, Paul Hawkyard, Gus Gordon and Richard Sutton. It is directed by Jeremy Dyson, Andy Nyman and Sean Holmes and has special effects by Scott Penrose.

The Sound of Music – tour starts 10 January
Over the Rainbow finalist Emilie Fleming plays Maria in the 2020 tour of The Sound of Music, with Coronation Street's Andrew Lancel reprising the role of Captain von Trapp. Alongside them is Welsh soprano Megan Llewellyn as Mother Abbess.
They will be joined by Howard Samuels, Michael Anderson, Nicole Farrar, Alex Evans, Zoe Ann Brown, Georgina Hagen, Katie Shearman, Sophie Christine, Olivia Alexander, Jon de Ville, Wendy-Lee Purdy, Paul Lavers and Sam Tithecott.
This 1959 Broadway musical is based on Maria Augusta Trapp’s autobiography The Trapp Family Singers. It has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.
The score includes classics "Edelweiss", "My Favourite Things", "Do-Re-Mi", "Climb Ev’ry Mountain" and title song "The Sound of Music".
The Sound of Music is produced by Bill Kenwright, directed by Martin Connor and choreographed by Bill Deamer. The musical director is Jeremy Wootton.
The Sound of Music visits Dublin Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Derry Millennium Forum Theatre, Sunderland Empire Blackpool Opera House, Bradford The Alhambra Theatre, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, New Victoria Theatre Woking, Milton Keynes Theatre, The Hawth Crawley, Congress Theatre Eastbourne, Sheffield Lyceum Theatre and Chester Storyhouse.
Once – tour starts 13 January
Multi award-winning Broadway and West End musical Once is based on the 2007 Indie film of the same name.
It tells an uplifting story of unexpected love between a Dublin street busker and a Czech musician. The book is by Irish playwright and screenwriter Enda Walsh and the music and lyrics are by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová; it stars Daniel Healy as Guy and Emma Lucia as Girl.
Having spent Christmas at Fairfield Halls Croydon, the show tours to Cliffs Pavilion Southend, Empire Theatre Liverpool, Grand Opera House York, New Victoria Theatre Woking, Milton Keynes Theatre, Theatre Royal Bath, Belgrade Theatre Coventry, Regent Theatre Stoke, Malvern Festival Theatre, His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen, Theatre Royal Nottingham, New Theatre Oxford, Theatre Royal Brighton, Lyceum Theatre Sheffield, Wales Millennium Centre Cardiff, Mayflower Theatre Southampton, Playhouse Edinburgh, Alexandra Theatre Birmingham, Marlowe Theatre Canterbury, Curve Leicester, The Lowry Salford, Theatre Royal Plymouth and King’s Theatre Glasgow.
God of Carnage – tour starts 14 January
2018's 10th anniversary production of Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage directed by Lindsay Posner at Theatre Royal Bath tours with Elizabeth McGovern and Nigel Lindsay reprising their roles and with Samantha Spiro and Simon Paisley Day joining the cast.
Reza’s comic and stinging study of middle-class parenting is translated by Christopher Hampton and won an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and a Tony Award for Best New Play.
It follows two sets of parents who meet over drinks one evening to discuss their respective 11-year-old boys and the fact that one lost two teeth at the hands of the other during a playground fight.
It starts civil enough but, once the drinks are flowing, the line between adult and spoiled brat starts to blur.
This comedy is presented by Theatre Royal Bath Productions.
