11 locals saddle up for War Horse

When War Horse rides into The Lowry in November, 11 actors from the north west, including David Fleeshman, will join the 34-strong cast for its highly anticipated regional première.

Fleeshman from Woodford in Cheshire is a familiar face on the Manchester stage with credits including Much Ado About Nothing at The Royal Exchange, Cinderella at Manchester Opera House, numerous Library Theatre productions including Hard Times and All My Sons and Death of a Salesman at Bolton Octagon.

TV credits include Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Heartbeat, Bad Girls and Eastenders.

Oldham-born Karen Henthorn (who plays Rose) played Teresa Bryant in Coronation Street for two years. Her other TV credits include Homefront, Doctors, Eastenders and Shameless.

Steven Hillman from Hulme (Ted) has TV credits including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Heartbeat, The Royal and Shameless.

Peter Ash, from Ashton-under-Lyne (Billy), played Darius Fry in ITV1’s Footballers Wives; Emily Aston from Bacup (Paulette) is the sister of Coronation Street actor Sam Aston and has credits including Coronation Street, Heartbeat, Doctors, Funland and This is England ’88.

Other actors from the region are: Nisa Cole from Rusholme, (Emilie), Helen MacFarlane from Salford (Matron / Baby Joey), Alex Moran from Salford (David / Baby Joey), Paul Simpson from Belthorn (Klausen), Simeon Truby from Swinton (Manfred / Allan) and Martin Wenner from Hyde (Friedrich).

Directed by Marianne Elliott, from Manchester, and Tom Morris, War Horse is based on Michael Morpurgo’s book.

It opens at The Lowry November 20.
