The Book of Mormon, which arrives at Sunderland Empire on 28 August and was due to close on 7 September, will now run for an extra week closing on Saturday 14 September, because of the demand for tickets.

Written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone (co-creators of South Park) and Robert Lopez (co-creator of Avenue Q and co-writer of the songs for Disney’s Frozen and Coco), The Book of Mormon has won Tony, Olivier and Grammy Awards since it premièred in March 2011 at New York’s Eugene O’Neill Theatre, where it won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The London production opened in February 2013, winning four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical, and breaking the record for the highest single day of sales in West End history. It has sold out every one of its 2,662 performances to date at the Prince of Wales Theatre.

The cast is led by Kevin Clay as Elder Price and Conner Peirson as Elder Cunningham, recreating their roles from the Broadway and US touring productions.

Tickets are now on sale.
