Above the Stag announces closure

In a surprise statement this morning, Above The Stag Theatre announced its immediate and permanent closure.

No further details were given, but an explanatory statement has been promised for Tuesday.

In February, we reported that an upwards only rent review threatened the closure of this London fringe venue operating as an independent charity, offering an exclusively LGBT-themed programme of shows across its two spaces.

In this morning’s statement, the theatre has said that ticket-holders will be refunded and creditors, staff, creatives, actors and technicians will be paid in full.

The theatre’s closure is sad news indeed and fingers are crossed that Tuesday’s update contains some hope for its future.
