The University of Bristol Theatre Collection is welcoming applications for The Kevin Elyot Award.
The Award provides a four-week writer’s residency with funding of £3,000 to support a new piece of work inspired by the Kevin Elyot archive.
The archive, held at the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, contains scripts, correspondence, manuscript and publicity material.
The chosen writer will also receive support with research and a public sharing of the work.
Kevin Elyot studied at the University of Bristol's Drama Department. Initially an actor, he went on to be best known as a playwright and screenwriter. His work includes My Night with Reg for which he won a Laurence Olivier Award and an Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Comedy, amongst others. A 35th anniversary production of Elyot’s first play, Coming Clean, ran at London's King's Head Theatre last year. Kevin Elyot died in 2014.
The Kevin Elyot Award is funded by an endowment provided by his family.
