People runs at Birmingham REP from 3 until 21 September

Alan Bennett’s latest play People, which had a sell-out run at the National Theatre, opens at Birmingham REP on Tuesday (3 September)—the first production at the theatre after its major refurbishment.

The REP closed for two-and-a-half years while the building on Centenary Square was upgraded and a third auditorium was added.

People will be the opening show in the main house and the cast comprises Siân Phillips, Brigit Forsyth, original cast member Selina Cadell, Paul Moriarty, Michael Thomas and Simon Bubb.

The production reunites Alan Bennett and director Nicholas Hytner who also collaborated on The History Boys and The Habit of Art.

The creative team includes Drew Mulligan (revival director), Bob Crowley (design), James Farncombe (lighting design), Rich Walsh (sound design), Jon Driscoll (short film) and Jonathan Watkins (movement director).

People runs at the REP until Saturday 21 September and then tours to Curve, Leicester from 24 until 28 September; Norwich Theatre Royal; The Lowry, Salford; Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury; Milton Keynes Theatre; Leeds Grand Theatre; and Plymouth Theatre Royal.
