Hobson’s Choice closed Birmingham Royal Ballet's 2018–19 season at Sadler’s Wells, the company's final performances with David Bintley as Director.

Before the final performance on 29 June, BRB Vice-President Lady Sarah Chatto awarded Bintley a medal for his work as Director of the company for 24 years and afterwards, Sir Peter Wright paid homage to his contribution to British ballet, stating that he had been faithful to the vision of BRB founder Dame Ninette de Valois to "respect the past, herald the future, but concentrate on the present".

Bintley also announced the promotions of Brandon Lawrence from First Soloist to Principal, Kit Holder, Rory Mackay and Valentin Olovyannikov from Soloists to First Soloists and Laura Day and Beatrice Parma from First Artists to Soloists.

First Artist Ruth Brill also left BRB to further her work as a choreographer. She is working on projects with London Children’s Ballet and New English Ballet Theatre, as well as acting as Interim Artistic Director/Choreographer for National Youth Ballet.
