Candoco Dance Company celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2016 with a new duet choreographed by Arlene Phillips, a programme of performances, special events, participation work and international touring.

Founded in 1991 by Celeste Dandeker and Adam Benjamin, Candoco developed from integrated workshops at London’s Aspire Centre for Spinal Injury into the first professional contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled artists in the UK.

A new duet exploring how we fall in and out of love will be created with leading pop choreographer Arlene Phillips CBE, which will tour outdoor festivals around the country this summer including the Greenwich and Docklands Festival on 2 July with support from the Without Walls consortium.

Other events include performances of Let’s Talk about Dis, created with Hetain Patel, and Beheld, choreographed by Alexander Whitley at Bristol and Cardiff with further venues to be announced during the year.

There will be a Friday Late Spectacular at Wellcome Collection on 6 May called Display, choreographed by Candoco Artist Mirjam Gurtner, which will include short performances staged around the building.

Candoco’s youth company, Cando2, in collaboration with students from Caldicott School and ex-servicemen and women (including several from the cast of The Two Worlds of Charlie F) will work on a new dance piece called Muster, which will be performed at The Place in London on 20 February.

Candoco will visit a number of countries during its anniversary year, including Switzerland for a three-week tour of Set and Reset/Reset, Poland with double bill CounterActs and India to perform Studies for C, a duet created with Javier de Frutos.
