Dancing in Derry

Political Mother: Derry-Londonderry Uncut is a new version of choreographer Hofesh Shechter's dance and music performance Political Mother.

It is a significant commission from Culture Company and LIFT for Derry, the first UK City of Culture, and it will be presented in March at The Ebrington Arena, a venue specifically constructed to house events during 2013.

For this production the live band will be joined by 22 Derry musicians. The dance company numbers 16.

In advance of Political Mother: Derry-Londonderry Uncut the Company will also work on performances of new work with local dance groups on the themes that inform Political Mother: oppression, survival, resistance and existence.

For over two decades biennial theatre festival LIFT—London International Festival of Theatre—has been presenting international contemporary performance actively involving communities; for UK City of Culture it will also be hosting The Derry-Londonderry CityLAB from 2 to 9 March 2013. This engages 15 young artists from across Europe in an endeavour create new work inspired by European cities.
