Ian Gelder plays James Whale and Will Austin plays Clayton Boone

Gods and Monsters written and directed by Russell Labey will première at London's Southwark Playhouse next month.

Russell Labey was script editor for the film Milk which won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay; he wrote and directed the original stage adaptation of Whistle Down The Wind and New Boy and has many other stage credits.

Based on the novel Father Of Frankenstein by Christopher Bram, it tells the story of the now reclusive Frankenstein director, the openly gay James Whale, and Clayton Boone, who becomes the object of Whale’s obsession.

Bram's book was the basis for an Oscar-winning movie of the same name.

The role of James Whale will be taken by Ian Gelder, known to many for television drama series Game Of Thrones. His stage credits include playing Marcus Andronicus in Titus Andronicus at Shakespeare’s Globe, Jack Bryant in Roots at the Donmar Warehouse and Larry in Company at Sheffield Crucible.

Will Austin will play Clayton Boone, this will be his professional London stage début. Austin has just finished filming Mission Impossible 5.

Completing the cast are Lachele Carl, Will Rastall and Joey Phillips, also making his professional London stage début.

Gods And Monsters plays The Large at Southwark Playhouse from 5 February to 7 March.
