New Earth Theatre has awarded LAMDA graduate Ami Tredrea the 2022 Constellation Creatives Drama Student Bursary.

Tredrea was chosen by a panel of judges that included John Cannon (casting director at the BBC), Bryony Jarvis-Taylor (casting director at the National Theatre), Hannah Miller (casting director at the RSC), Orion Lee (actor and sponsor of the Bursary) and Kumiko Mendl (artistic director of New Earth Theatre).

She made her professional stage début at the Old Vic in The 47th, and later this year can be seen at the National Theatre. As recipient of the Bursary, she will receive £1,000 and a year’s subscription to Spotlight.

The Bursary is awarded by New Earth Theatre to encourage and promote the work of British East and South East Asian (BESEA) actors and is provided by Orion Lee and Spotlight.

Kumiko Mendl said, “Ami impressed the panel with her undoubted ability and passion and, as a ‘hafu’ like myself, I am so pleased to see more space has opened up in the industry for actors like herself, certainly more than in my day! We eagerly look forward to seeing Ami's next steps and her contribution to the ever-growing pool of BESEA talent.”
