National Theatre adds new productions to season

Georg Kaiser’s From Morning to Midnight in a new version by Dennis Kelly enters the National's season

Three new productions have been added to the National Theatre's season.

In the Lyttelton Melly Still will direct Dennis Kelly's new version of German Expressionist tragedy From Morning To Midnight by Georg Kaiser which opens in November. Adam Godley will lead the cast.

The two other productions are in The Shed, the temporary venue covering the period of the Cottesloe's closure during the Theatre's building project.

First to open in December is The Elephantom by Ross Collins adapted by National associate director Ben Power. Suitable for an audience of four years and over, the show uses puppetry to tell the story of a little girl who has a ghost-elephant living in her house.

The Elephantom will be co- directed by Finn Caldwell and Toby Olié, both previous associate directors of puppetry for War Horse, with Marianne Elliott as consultant director.

Protest Song, a new monologue by Tim Price, opens later in December. Polly Findlay directs Rhys Ifans in a funny and savage look at the Occupy movement.

A new play on contemporary gender politics created by Carrie Cracknell and Nick Payne has also been announced for January 2014.

Nick Payne’s writing credits include Constellations and The Same Deep Water As Me. Carrie Cracknell is Associate Director at the Royal Court Theatre.

The Theatre's programme of 50th anniversary events, Platform talks, free exhibitions, transfers and touring productions continues as previously announced.
