New literary policy for Bush Theatre

As anticipated, Bush Theatre's artistic director Madani Younis has detailed the company's new literary policy at writing festival RADAR 2012.

The strategy takes a pragmatic approach to dealing with unsolicited scripts but maintains the theatre's support of new writers.

Until this month, theatre makers have been free to submit work digitally at any time and the review process has been ongoing but under the new arrangement there will be two three–week windows a year for submissions to be considered.

The aim of the new arrangement is to find original, previously unproduced works from individuals or companies who have yet to establish themselves. Through a process of mentoring and workshops with those involved, a number of projects will be selected for development and at least one of these will be brought to full production during 2014.

The theatre will publish guidelines for their unsolicited submissions policy in January and the window for first submissions will open on 2 April. The current arrangement closes on 23 November and the theatre will continue to respond to submissions received until that date.
