New Writing North has received Arts Council funding for a family production to tour the north in the autumn, having secured the rights to adapt Simon Bartram’s picture book Man on the Moon (A Day in the Life of Bob).
NWN invited submissions from writers in March and has appointed Newcastle-based playwright Zoe Cooper to write the script. Her first full-length play, Nativities, was produced at Live Theatre in 2012 and in that same year she contributed a piece to the Live/Soho Theatre production Utopia. She currently has plays in development at Live, The Old Vic and The Ovalhouse.
Central character Bob is an orderly, helpful and delightfully uninquisitive caretaker-cum-tour-guide on the moon. Bob knows practically everything there is to know about the lunar landscape, and if there is one thing Bob is sure about, it is that there’s no such thing as aliens. But who could be making all that mess?
The Man on the Moon tour is funded by Arts Council England’s Strategic touring programme.
