Northampton reveals cast for Pippi Longstocking première

Emily-Mae will play Pippi Longstocking

Northampton’s Royal and Derngate has announced the cast for the world première of Pippi Longstocking, one of its 2019 Christmas shows.

Emily-Mae leads the ensemble cast as Pippi. She played Ulla in Mel Brooks’s The Producers at the Royal Exchange, Manchester in 2018.

Appearing alongside her will be Scott Brooks, Matthew Churcher and Philippa Hogg who were both in the ensemble of the National Theatre production of J M Barrie’s Peter Pan at Troubadour White City Theatre earlier in 2019, Hanora Kamen who was Louise Turner in the Wardrobe Ensemble production of Education, Education, Education at Trafalgar Studios 1 in 2019, Rowena Lennon who was in Suzanne Andrade’s The Animals and Children Took to the Streets at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith in 2019, Alex Parry who played William Hare in Tom Wentworth’s Burke and Hare at Jermyn Street Theatre in 2018 and Luke Potter who was composer and musical director for Emma Reeves’s adaptation of Jill Murphy’s The Worst Witch for Northampton Royal and Derngate in 2019.

Pippi Longstocking will be directed by The Wardrobe Ensemble’s Jesse Jones and Helena Middleton who co-directed Education, Education, Education for Royal and Derngate in 2017.

Mike Akers is adapting the books for the stage 75 years after they were written, following on from an initial script by the late John Miller. Original music is by Stu Barker, design is by Katie Sykes, Sally Ferguson is lighting designer and Dominic Bilkey is sound designer.

Pippi Longstocking will take to the Northampton Royal stage from Tuesday 10 until Tuesday 31 December 2019.
