The Lyric Belfast’s co-production with Dublin’s Abbey Theatre of Brian Friel’s Translations has been nominated in the Best Play Revival category of this year's UK Theatre Awards alongside Headlong Theatre, Leeds Playhouse and the Old Vic’s Jitney, and The Mountaintop at the Royal Exchange, Manchester. Translations opened in April with runs in both Belfast and Dublin and completed a regional tour of Ireland earlier this month.

The venue’s Creative Learning Department has received a nomination for its extensive outreach work with its Lyric Learning programme in the Excellence in Arts Education category, alongside the Ambassador Theatre Group and Chester’s Storyhouse.

Written and performed by Richard Clements, How to Bury a Dead Mule, his solo portrait of his grandfather’s experiences in war and its later impact on his mental health, was seen at the Lyric in early September. It competes with Jonathan Larkin’s Cherry Jezebel and Tonderai Munyevu’s Mugabe, My Dad & Me.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London’s Guildhall on October 23.
