Southampton's Nuffield Theatre has announced the programme for the first part of the new year.

The Theatre's director, Sam Hodges, has developed a programme that will feature two new Nuffield co-productions, The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary! and Noises Off, together with six visiting productions.

He said, “we are especially thrilled to present two new Nuffield productions this season: an exhilarating new adaptation of Madame Bovary and the legendary comedy Noises Off. We are really looking forward to our 2016 season, it promises a full programme of bold, funny, classic and stylish theatre, and welcomes some of the most exciting theatre companies from across the UK to join us.”

The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary! is a collaboration between Nuffield, Peepolykus, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse (whose artistic director Gemma Bodinetz directs), Bristol Old Vic and Royal & Derngate, Northampton in which Flaubert’s novel has been "lovingly derailed" by John Nicholson and Javier Marzan of Peepolykus.

Michael Frayn's multi-award-winning comedy Noises Off is presented by Nuffield alongside Nottingham Playhouse and Northern Stage; Nuffield’s Associate Director Blanche McIntyre directs.

Visitors to Nuffield include the Curve Leicester and Rose Theatre Kingston production of Roald Dahl's The Witches, Eclipse Theatre Company, Sheffield Theatres and Belgrade Theatre Coventry co-production of A Raisin in the Sun, Filter’s Twelfth Night, Northern Stage’s Get Carter and Kneehigh and Bristol Old Vic co-production The Flying Lovers Of Vitebsk.

During the season, Nuffield’s Youth Theatre will present Evan Placey’s Girls Like That and a new modern adaptation of The Odyssey.
