Papatango New Writing Prize open for submissions

The eleventh Papatango New Writing Prize is open for submissions.

The winner takes home a £6,000 commission together with full support to develop a follow-up play. They will see their work receive a full production at London's Southwark Playhouse in October from which they receive royalty payments and their play will be published by Nick Hern Books.

Scripts must be original, unproduced and have a running time of at least 60 minutes. Writers must be resident in the UK or Ireland.

Entries must be received via the online submission form in PDF or Microsoft Word format, and be anonymised. Submissions must be received by 9PM on 17 February. The winner will be announced in June 2019.

The reading team, which identifies as at least 50% female and is at least 25% BAME, guarantees to give every entrant feedback on their work.

The 2018 winner was Iman Qureshi with her play The Funeral Director, chosen from amongst 1,384 plays.

Papatango also supports writers through its Resident Playwright scheme, GoWrite programme and bursary scheme for in-need writers.
