Shrek the Musical

Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Shrek the Musical will come to Sunderland Empire later this year.

Priscilla, starring pop band Blue's Duncan James as Tick and produced by David Ian Productions and the Ambassador Theatre Group, plays at the Empire from 31 August to 5 September.

The show originally opened in Australia and, after a sell-out two-year run, opened in London’s West End and then on Broadway. It has won numerous awards all over the world, including Olivier and Tony awards.

Tickets are already on sale.

And today, in a separate announcement, Ben Phillips, Sunderland Empire's General Manager, said, "we are delighted to announce that Shrek the Musical will play Sunderland Empire for a limited two-week run this November. Audiences across the region will have the opportunity to enjoy this enchanting and magical smash-hit direct from London’s West End."

Shrek is directed by Nigel Harman, who starred as Lord Farquaad in the West End production, winning him the 2012 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical. Casting for the new tour is yet to be announced.

Tickets go on sale on Friday 20 March at 10AM to Theatre Card holders and to Groups at 12 noon. Sales to the general public begin at 10AM on Monday 23 March.
