Midlands theatres are well represented in this year’s Theatrical Management Association’s Theatre Awards UK, with two venues being nominated in two categories.

Leicester’s Curve is vying for the accolade of most welcoming theatre while artistic director Paul Kerryson’s show The King and I gets a nomination for best touring production.

For the first time the best touring production winner will be chosen by a public vote which has been organised by The Stage newspaper through its website. Votes can be submitted to www.thestage.co.uk/theatreawardsuk until 22 October.

Coventry’s Belgrade is also up for two awards: Joe Harmston for best director for Laurie Slade’s adaptation of August Strindberg’s The Father and general manager Janthi Mills for theatre employee / manager of the year.

In the best supporting performance category, Stephen Boxer is nominated for David Edgar’s Written on the Heart at the RSC’s Swan Theatre in Stratford.

Derby LIVE’s collaboration with West Yorkshire Playhouse and Northampton Royal and Derngate, The Go-Between, will be hoping to lift the award for best musical production.

Newcastle-under-Lyme’s New Vic will be hoping for success in the best show for children and young people, with a nomination for artistic director Theresa Heskins’s adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

The winners will be announced on Sunday, 28 October.
