Sheridan Smith will return to the role of Fanny Brice for the tour of Funny Girl after her acclaimed performances at Menier Chocolate Factory and the Savoy Theatre.

Smith took nearly two months off from the show in the West End due to stress and exhaustion, returning in July to standing ovations.

She will take the role that made Barbra Streisand famous fifty years ago about the girl whose vocal talents and comedic ability see her rise from Brooklyn music hall singer to Broadway star, featuring songs such as "People" and "Don't Rain On My Parade".

The show features a score by Jule Styne with lyrics by Bob Merrill and a book by Isobel Lennart, revised by Harvey Fierstein. The production is directed by Michael Mayer with choreography by Lynn Page.

Smith will open the tour at Manchester's Palace Theatre in February 2017, before touring to Milton Keynes Theatre, Liverpool Empire, Bristol Hippodrome, Edinburgh Playhouse, Birmingham Hippodrome, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Mayflower Theatre Southampton, Bradford Alhambra Theatre, Southend Cliffs Pavilion, Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and Bord Gais Dublin.

The production will also visit, without Smith in the role, Stoke's Regent Theatre, His Majesties Aberdeen, New Victoria Woking, Marlowe Theatre Canterbury, King's Theatre Glasgow, Nottingham Theatre Royal and Venue Cymru, Llandudno.
