Without a stage lift: replacement at Derby Theatre will take at least 12 weeks

Derby Theatre has had to cancel two shows because its stage lift needs replacing.

The Watermill Theatre and Eleanor Lloyd Productions’ The Secret Adversary by Agatha Christie, due to run from 14 until 18 April, and Rachel Wagstaff’s adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’s Birdsong, scheduled for 27 until 30 May, have both been called off.

General manager of Derby Theatre Gary Johnson says the lift unexpectedly failed and it will take between 12 and 14 weeks for it to be replaced.

“We’re unable to accommodate these two productions due to the complexity and size of the sets. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this may cause. All other productions will go ahead as planned.”
