Two Northampton Royal and Derngate productions which transferred to London have been nominated for the 2020 Olivier Awards.

The theatre’s Christmas show The Worst Witch, which had a six-week summer season at the Vaudeville Theatre in the West End, has been nominated for best family show.

The venue’s production of Katori Hall’s Our Lady of Kibeho, which had its UK debut in Northampton in January 2018, has been nominated in the category of outstanding achievement in an affiliate theatre for its transfer to the Theatre Royal Stratford East in autumn 2019.

The production was directed by Royal and Derngate artistic director James Dacre who said, “we’re absolutely delighted to hear that two of our productions, which started life here in Northampton, have been honoured by nominations. I’d like to thank everyone involved—our staff, co-producing partners and the fantastic companies—who made these productions such a success.”

The Olivier Awards ceremony will take place at the Royal Albert Hall, London on 5 April.
