The new NE theatre season is gradually hotting up with more productions this week, while one-night stands, music and amateur shows continue to occupy a number of venues.

Barry Humphries' Farewell Tour comes to Newcastle Theatre Royal from Tuesday to Saturday.

There are two new screenplays by Lee Hall given a reading and discussion at Live Theatre this week: Harold Larwood on Thursday and Down and Out in Paris and London on Friday.

Postman Pat in "It's Showtime!" comes to the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre on Sunday 26 at 1PM.

James Wilton Dance presents Last Man Standing at Dance City on Saturday.

Singin' in the Rain continues at Sunderland Empire until 1 February.

Sell a Door Theatre Company presents Kidnapped at the Customs House, South Shields, on Thursday.

On Friday, the first BITESIZE drama, The Next Train to Depart, will be in the Green Room Studio at the Queen's Hall in Hexham.

On Thursday and Friday Shakespeare 4 Kidz presents S4K's Macbeth, a musical adaptation, at the Middlesbrough Theatre.
