The Shawshank Redemption comes to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal from Monday to Saturday.

Kneehigh brings its version of The Beggar’s Opera, Dead Dog in a Suitcase (and other love songs), to Northern Stage from Tuesday to Saturday and the theatre’s regular scratch night, First in 3, is on Thursday in Stage 3.

Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour continues at Live Theatre until Saturday.

The Rooms, a promenade production exploring the hidden nooks, crannies and characters of the theatre’s basement and consisting of three specially written plays, is at Alphabetti Theatre from Monday until 31 October.

London Classic Theatre brings Waiting for Godot to Alnwick Playhouse on Saturday.

Theatre Hullabaloo and Theatre by the Lake present Bear & Butterfly for children aged 4+ at 10:30AM and 1:30PM on Tuesday at the Phoenix in Blyth.

London Classic Theatre presents Absent Friends by Alan Ayckbourn at the Queen’s Hall in Hexham on Friday and Saturday.

On Tuesday at the Playhouse Whitley Bay Moscow Ballet La Classique presents Swan Lake.

Cloud Nine performs The Stolen Rubber Band by Peter Mortimer at the Low Lights Tavern in North Shields from Monday to Wednesday, the Surf Café in Tynemouth on Thursday, the Yoga Station at Whitley Bay Metro Station on Friday, Whitley Bay FC’s concert room on Saturday and Whitley Bay Comrades Club on Sunday.

As part of the TakeOff Festival, Bear & Butterfly is at Durham’s Gala Theatre on Wednesday at 10AM and 1:15PM, followed by balletLORENT’s Snow White at 12:30PM and 7PM. Then Propeller’s Pocket Merchant runs at 1PM and 7:30PM on Thursday and at 11AM and 2PM on Saturday there are performances of The Falcon’s Malteser.

At Middlesbrough Theatre this week, it’s The Shakespeare Schools Festival from Monday to Wednesday, Rumpus Theatre Company’s The Haunted Doll’s House on Thursday, A Night of Romantic Opera from Swansea City Opera on Friday and on Saturday at 1PM Scamp Theatre presents The Scarecrows’ Wedding, based on the children’s book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

At 1PM on Wednesday Propeller brings its Pocket Merchant to Hartlepool’s Town Hall Theatre.

Mind the Gap presents Contained at ARC Stockton on Wednesday and Thursday.

At 9:30AM, 11AM and 1:30PM on Wednesday at Darlington Civic, there are performances of Under Foot, an interactive sound and movement performance for children aged 1 and walking to 5.

On Friday at the Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond, Mikron Theatre Company is on the hunt for the finest fish and chips in Britain in One of Each.

Moscow Ballet La Classique brings The Nutcracker to the Royal Hall in Harrogate on Saturday.
