Russell T Davies, winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Writing Award 2016

Cross–genre writer's union the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain has announced the winners of its annual awards.

The Outstanding Contribution to Writing Award was taken away by writer and producer Russell T Davies. His credits include Queer as Folk and drama trilogy Cucumber, Banana and Tofu.

Amongst the other winners were:

  • Timberlake Wertenbaker – Best Play for Jefferson’s Garden,
  • Mike Kenny – Best Play for Young Audiences for Three Wise Monkeys
  • DC Moore – Best Long Form TV Drama for Not Safe for Work
  • Michael Crompton – Best Short Form TV Drama for Code of a Killer
  • Emma Reeves – Best Children’s TV Episode for Eve – Final Episode “Control, Alter, Delete”
  • Armando Iannucci – Best TV Situation Comedy Veep
  • Tony Jones – Best Radio Drama for Quill
  • Deborah Frances-White – Best Radio Comedy for Deborah Frances-White Rolls The Dice
  • Paul King – Best Screenplay for Paddington
  • James Graham – Best First Screenplay for X + Y

A special tribute was made to the writer of The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, David Nobbs, who died last year.

Caitlin Moran, Helen Lederer, Charlie Hardwick, Moira Buffini and Jonathan Asser were amongst those presenting the Awards. Comedian, actor and writer Susan Calman hosted the event which took place in London last week.
