Northampton’s Royal and Derngate scooped an accolade in the best presentation of touring theatre category at the UK Theatre Awards.
The venue was acknowledged for its season of Made in Northampton co-produced work.
Artistic director James Dacre commented, “Northampton has always been known for its export industries and so it’s thrilling that theatre productions made here in Northampton have also been recognised for making an impact nationwide.
“This past year six ambitious productions Made in Northampton have toured to 37 venues across 30 towns and cities, playing to 197,000 people in wide range of places, from concert halls and proscenium-arch theatres to cathedrals and outdoor spaces.
“We’re proud to have partnered with so many great organisations and would like to thank all our audiences for their support.”
Productions ranged from Shakespeare’s King John and Cyrano de Bergerac to world premières of Pat Barker’s Regeneration, Arthur Miller’s The Hook and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.
Royal and Derngate worked with Northern Stage, Touring Consortium Theatre Company, Shakespeare’s Globe and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse.
Actress Anne Reid presented the award at London’s Guildhall.
