Alan Bennett's People at the National Theatre

Alan Bennett’s new play People will reopen Birmingham REP in September after the theatre’s two-and-a-half year closure for refurbishment.

People is Bennett’s sixth play for the National Theatre after The Habit of Art, The History Boys, The Madness of George III, The Wind in the Willows and Single Spies.

Both The Habit of Art and The History Boys started their UK tours at the REP and sold out.

The REP’s artistic director Roxana Silbert said, “Alan Bennett’s new play will be a double première, opening our newly refurbished theatre and launching the National Theatre's tour after its sell-out run in London.

“I’m looking forward to announcing the rest of our exciting reopening season on 15 February.”

Casting for People which will be at the REP from 3 until 21 September will be announced later.
