Earthquakes In London was the hugely successful collaboration between now Almeida artistic director Rupert Goold and playwright Mike Bartlett, an association to be repeated with King Charles III, one of two new plays programmed by Goold for the venue this year.

King Charles III is dubbed 'A Future History Play' anticipating the country's next monarch and promising controversy in its exploration of Britain's most famous family and the unwritten rules of democracy.

Mike Bartlett has won awards for his stage and radio writing and last year he was nominated for a BAFTA for television series The Town. He also collaborated with Rupert Goold on Decade.

The second new play selected by Goold is "A post electric play": Mr Burns by Anne Washburn, a piece set in post-apocalyptic America imagining a country without power.

Almeida Associate Director Robert Icke will direct this European première. He was previously associate director at Headlong.

  • King Charles III runs from 3 April to 31 May
  • Mr Burns runs from 5 June to 19 July

Captioned and audio described performances have been programmed. Tickets go on public sale on 25 February.
