Laurie offers one for the road in Northampton

The final production for Northampton Royal and Derngate’s outgoing artistic director Laurie Sansom will be the aptly named One for the Road by Willy Russell.

Sansom is to take up a similar position with the National Theatre of Scotland.

Russell’s work will be the first in a trio of British comedies that will open the latest Made In Northampton series.

One for the Road takes to the Royal stage from Friday, 1 February until Saturday, 23 February.

The second comedy is a rarely seen, early play by Alan Ayckbourn, Mr Whatnot. Cal McCrystal, physical comedy director for the National Theatre’s production of One Man, Two Guvnors, directs the play which runs from Friday, 15 March until Saturday, 6 April.

Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream completes the trio, with director Gary Sefton staging the action in Edwardian England. It runs from Friday, 19 April until Saturday, 11 May.

Brian Friel’s award-winning Dancing at Lughnasa can be seen in the Royal auditorium from Friday, 24 May until Saturday, 15 June.

Touring productions include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat from 19 until 23 February; The 39 Steps from 25 February until 2 March; the first tour of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap from 18 until 23 March; Cole Porter’s High Society from 9 until 13 April; Birds of a Feather from 30 April until 4 May; and Sebastian Faulks’s Birdsong from 13 until 18 May.
