Children are at the heart of Christmas programming at Islington's Little Angel Theatre following an autumn season centred around work for adults with the SUSPENSE London Puppetry Festival at its pinnacle.

The team behind The Mouse Queen and Roald Dahl's The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me have turned their hand to The Night Before Christmas. Co-writers Ben Glasstone and Tim Kane have created a comic puppet musical based around the classic poem by Clement Clarke Moore; the show, which will also be directed by Glasstone, features singing stockings, riotous reindeer and a stressed–out Santa and is suitable for families and children over the age of 3.

The hugely successful Dogs Don’t Do Ballet returns for another festive season slot (suitable for ages 2 to 6) and Joy Haynes returns to open the new year with her co–devised Little Angel classic Sleeping Beauty in the Wood. This reworking of the Brothers Grimm Briar Rose story uses puppets, projections, automata and live music to conjure up a magic world of forests, ogres, fairies, princes and babes.

Booking is open for all three productions:

  • The Night Before Christmas – 16 November to 5 January 2014
  • Dogs Don’t Do Ballet – 11 December to 2 February 2014
  • Sleeping Beauty in the Wood – 15 January to 23 February 2014
