Produced by Illuminations, Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella is to be released on DVD and Blu-ray on 15 October 2018. The release coincides with an international tour and the opening of Bourne’s newest revival of Swan Lake.
Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella, originally mounted in 1997 but recreated as a new production in 2017, is set in London during the Second World War. It features Cinderella and a dashing young RAF pilot parted by the horrors of the Blitz.
Designer Lez Brotherston’s costumes and sets provide a backdrop to the dance, accompanied by a specially commissioned recording of Sergei Prokofiev’s score played by a 60-piece orchestra.
Performed as part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations, it recreates the sights and sounds of a wartime London with the help of lighting designer Neil Austin and Duncan McLean’s video projections.
