Full details have yet to be released but the good news is that Southwark Playhouse has temporary new premises in its home territory.

Last summer it was announced that the two under–the–arches theatre spaces would be sacrificed in the redevelopment of London Bridge Station, but following a campaign Southwark Playhouse is now sure of a permanent place in the new station premises through the Section 106 agreement.

The London Bridge Station works will be completed in 2018 and in the meantime the Southwark Playhouse is open for business from April 2013 in a converted 1960s office / warehouse building on Newington Causeway.

The 2,000 plus square feet of additional space means that both theatre areas can expand—the main house from 150- to a 240–seat capacity and the Vault from having a 100-seat capacity to a 120–seat studio. There will also be a café, rehearsal rooms and an area for education work.

The Shipwright Yard gates of Southwark Playhouse will close for the last time on 5 January—the final performance in the existing space will be Feathers in the Snow by Philip Ridley. Currently playing are Victor/Victoria and The Seagull.
