Matthew Bourne's Lord of the Flies comes to the Theatre Royal, Newcastle from Wednesday to Saturday.

The Afrovibes season at Northern Stage opens on Thursday with Rainbow Scars (running until 12 November) and on Friday and Saturday it's the turn of dance show Biko's Quest.

At Live Theatre, Afrovibes presents Mamela from Tuesday to Saturday, and on Saturday Philip Dikotla presenst his one-man show Skierlik. On Saturday afternoon, there is a free (bookng essential) rehearsed reading of Elusive Spring by Mike Van Graan. Unrelated to Afrovibes, on Friday evening in the Studio Mixtape presents Mixtape: North East.

On Tuesday, FRESH, an open forum for sharing and discussing new work, is at Dance City and features four new pieces of work from local dancers.

From Thursday to Saturday Birmingham Royal Ballet brings Beauty and the Beast to Sunderland Empire.

What The Dickens? The Misadventures of Charles Dickens comes to Arts Centre Washington on Thursday.

On Friday, Bent Architect Theatre Company presents England Arise! at the Royalty Theatre in Sunderland, a Sunderland Stages event.

At this Customs House in South Shields this week, Rumpus Theatre Company presents Captain Murderer on Monday and there's the theatre's own Scratch Night on Tuesday.

In a Nutshell (for ages 3 to 6), presented by Queen’s Hall Arts and PuppetShip, is at the Queen's Hall in Hexham at 11AM and 1:30PM on Saturday.

At the Gala in Durham this week, Blackeyed Theatre presents Not About Heroes on Monday, followed by English Touring Opera with Life on the Moon on Tuesday and Ottone on Wednesday.

Stones in His Pockets is at Billingham Forum on Tuesday.

At Darlington Civic, Eric and Little Ern is on Monday and Horrible Histories - Barmy Britain runs from Wednesday to Sunday.

ARC Stockton presents its ARCADE Scratch Night on Thursday.
