Shrek the Musical comes to Newcastle's Theatre Royal from Wednesday until 29 March.

The Filter Theatre and Tobacco Factory production of Macbeth comes to Northern Stage from Tuesday to Saturday.

Move to Stand brings Fat Man to Live's Studio Theatre on Friday and Saturday whilst on Saturday and Sunday Live's Youth Theatre presents Overload in the Main Theatre (both YT performances are sold out).

On Saturday, 2Faced Dance performs its double bill Dreaming in Code at Dance City.

Dark comedy Frank Sumatra comes to the new Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle on Thursday and Friday.

Sex in Suburbia is on for one night only at Sunderland Empire.

On Thursday The Paper Birds presents Broke at Arts Centre Washington.

Frank Sumatra is at the Customs House in South Shields on Monday.

Tangled Feet's Kicking and Screaming comes to Alnwick Playhouse on Tuesday.

On Saturday, Limbik Theatre presents The Messenger in the Henry Travers Studio at The Maltings in Berwick.

Kicking and Screaming is at the Queen's Hall in Hexham on Wednesday and Thursday.

Sex in Suburbia is at the Playhouse Whitley Bay on Tuesday.

Northern Ballet brings its ballet for children The Elves and the Shoemaker to Middlesbrough Theatre on Tuesday and for adults Goodnights Entertainment Ltd presents Big Pants and Botox on Thursday.

Wednesday is ARCADE Scratch Night at ARC Stockton, featuring four new pieces of work and part of the Pay What You Decide scheme. On Thursday Open Clasp presents Jumping Puddles and on Saturday at 11:30AM and 2:30PM Travelled Companions present Where Caterpillars Go... for age 0 to 5.

Birdsong comes to Darlington Civic from Tuesday to Saturday and Where Caterpillars Go... comes to the venue on Sunday at 11AM and 1PM.

On Friday, Fertile Ground presents On the Darkened Wing, a collaboration with The Bowes Museum & Cleveland College of Art and Design, at The Witham in Barnard Castle.

Edith in the Dark continues at Harrogate Theatre until Saturday.
